Race Preview: DTRA Nationals Round 2 & Hooligans Rounds 3-4, MCN Festival, Peterborough

Following our great season opener at the Adrian Flux Arena, King’s Lynn in April, we’re back for Round 2 of our Nationals championship at the MCN Festival of Motorcycling - the UK’s biggest festival of its kind - in Peterborough on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May. This event will also incorporate Rounds 3 and 4 of the Indian Motorcycle Hooligan championship, hot on the heels of Round 2 of that series, which will be taking place at Hells Race in the Netherlands on Sunday 5th May.

We’ve been racing as part of the MCN Festival at East of England Arena for a few years now, and it’s always a memorable weekend as the racing draws a huge crowd of spectators, many of whom are being introduced to flat track for the first time. It’s a great weekend for our riders too, as there’s lots to see in the downtime around races - and the live music in the bar on Friday and Saturday night always goes down well.

Here’s everything you’ll need to know about getting ready for racing at the MCN Festival, and some very important information for those who just want to come along and spectate.

Signing up to race in the Nationals Round 2, and Hooligans Rounds 3-4

Here’s the first and most important thing. If you want to race in this round, you MUST sign up - and pay - in advance for each class you wish to race in.

Sign up for the Nationals Round 1 and Hooligans Rounds 3-4 here.

Race entries close at midday on Friday 10th May. If you need to be reminded of how entry fees work, take a look at our 2019 Entry Pack and Class Regulations.

About the track at East of England Arena

The track at the East of England Arena is a shale speedway track, with big corners and short straights that almost make it feel like a circle, rather than an oval. At 337 metres long it’s actually a fairly long track, on which good starts are really important as it’s hard to pass other riders on the corners.

Here’s where to find the track:

Important information for spectators - how to buy a ticket

If you just want to come along and watch the DTRA racing at the MCN Festival, unfortunately you will need to buy a ticket for the entire event. The prices are very reasonable though, you can buy individual day tickets in advance at £15 each, or a full weekend ticket, which includes camping, for £35 in advance - however, we’ve got an exclusive discount code to get you reduced-price weekend passes.

There are concession tickets for over 65s and kids up to age 15 get in for free.

We recommend buying tickets in advance, as they’re a bit more expensive on the gate. Use the code DTFEST19 to get a weekend ticket for just £27.50.

Click here to book your advance tickets for the MCN Festival of Motorcycling now.

(Don’t worry, you won’t need to buy a separate festival or camping ticket if you’re signing up to race - we’ll give every rider a wristband at sign on, PLUS one additional pass for a mechanic or assistant)

We can’t guarantee the weather, but it’s good have an idea of what the weekend might look like. Keep an eye on the Peterborough weather forecast below so you know what gear to pack.

In case you’re wondering, we only ever call off races if the weather forecast is exceptionally poor. We appreciate that many of our riders have long distances to travel to races, so if a race needs to be called off, we always aim to make the announcement in plenty of time beforehand, and attempt to schedule a rain date after the end of the season.

We hope that this should be everything you need to know to prepare for Round 2 of the Nationals championship. If you have any further questions, PLEASE check the information on the Nationals page of our website first to see whether your query is answered there - otherwise, please just drop us an email at info@dirttrackriders.co.uk, or message us on Facebook and we’ll get back to you as quickly as we can.

Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram too, and of course keep checking this blog for photos, videos and updates from our Nationals, Hooligan and Euros championships.

To all riders and spectators, travel safe, and see you at the races for the second round of what is already turning out to be another exciting season of dirt track racing.
